Sickness had overcome him and as he lay on what he thought was going to
be his death bed he had the time to wonder about what happens after
death. He had always laughed at people who thought that there was a
heaven or a hell. Didnt he always say that religion was for the weak
and foolish? Yes, that is exactly what he said many times and until he
got this close to death he thought he believed it. Now that he lay at
deaths door he was beginning to have second thoughts about what was
going to happen after he passed on. What if he had been wrong about God
and religion all along? It wasnt like him to second guess the things
he
had made up his mind about, but this was different.
He started to laugh in spite of his condition because this time he was
beginning to think he had made the biggest mistake of his life. After
all, the doctor had told him that there was little or no hope for him
and he only had days or even hours to live. The cancer had spread in
him because he didnt want to believe he had it. When he finally got up the
nerve to drag himself to a doctor, he found out that he was too late.
Not that they could have saved him anyway, but maybe they would have
had a better chance if he had gone earlier.
Now that he understood that he was leaving this earth and all the money
in the world wasnt going to change anything, he was truly scared for
the first time in his life. He did something without thinking, he ask
God for help. This happened so fast that he didnt even realize he did
it. In this, his final hour he truly believed in God for the first time
in his life. As he started his trip from this world to another he was
suddenly free of pain and worry for the first time.
God was there just like he had always been, even when this man had
cursed his name and made fun of everything he stood for. God still
loved him like he loves all his children, and had been waiting for him to
come home. God reached out to this poor soul and surrounded him with the
warmth of his love, and forgave him of his sins.
God knew something that the poor soul didnt. God knew that the poor
soul had only seconds to live on this earth. God was pleased that the
man had finely reached out to him in his hour of need.
As the poor soul slipped his bonds to life on earth he was awakened to
the most beautiful sound he was to ever hear. It was the sound of God
telling him,
ENTER MY SON
